Vintage Buses

I have today completed a further proofreading project for Pen & Sword Books, this one being about the history of the Reliance Bus Company, a family-run business that was located close to Newbury, in Berkshire. Rather than being a look at the vehicles used, the history concentrated on the owners and a cross-section of company employees, thereby giving a more ‘personal’ feel to the manuscript. Well-illustrated, it told the story of how the company grew from running a small horse-drawn courier service to being a provider of coach tours and excursions, both in the UK and mainland Europe. It also spotlighted the company’s sad demise in the mid-1980s, and took a look at where former vehicles can still be found. A well-written manuscript and one that should appeal to the general historian as well as the transport enthusiast.
