Up North

My latest completed proofreading project for Pen & Sword Books was a railway one, the subject being the railway lines of the former Great Central Railway (GCR) in the Manchester and South Yorkshire areas which were run as joint operations with other railway companies. The book was a picture one, with detailed captions. The time period went from the late Victorian era down to the 1970s, and looked at infrastructure, for example signal boxes and stations, rather than locomotives. The book could be described as having two halves, contrasting the intensive passenger services in and around Manchester with the busy freight network in South Yorkshire, coal being the most common material to be conveyed. Much detail was on display and I would imagine that model makers, in particular, would find this treasure trove of illustrations much to their liking.
