My latest completed proofreading project for Pen & Sword Books was on a maritime-related subject, something very different from my usual subject matter. This was a manuscript written by George Hodgkinson, the topic being ship launches and the various different ceremonies that are undertaken as part of a launch. The story told was both historic and up to date, taking in both Britain and a cross-section of ship-building nations around the world. The author had clearly carried out much research on his topic, quoting many different sources in the course of the book, and through his own personal attendance at around fifty such launches. A selection of unusual and dramatic pictures complemented the informative text. The end result was a fine book, which should find a home on the bookshelves of many maritime enthusiasts, as well as a cross section of historians and other interested parties.
