Somerset & Dorset Railway

I have today completed a new proofread on behalf of Pen & Sword Books, this one being on the comprehensive subject of the locomotives used on the former Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Written by Tim Hillier-Graves, the book looks at the myriad of locomotives used on this late, legendary line from 1854 to its closure in March 1966. Many classic classes can be found within its pages, including the purpose-built 7F 2-8-0s, LMS Black Fives and the BR Standard 9F 2-10-0s, the latter finding employment on express passenger duties, a contrast to the freight traffic that the class was originally built for. Well researched and well illustrated, this new work is a fresh look at the S. & D. and should find a place on many a railway enthusiast’s bookshelf.
