Return to Wales

My latest completed proofreading project for Pen & Sword Books was a pictorial work entitled ‘Railways in South Wales and the Central Wales Line in the late 20th Century’. The author was Peter J. Green and the vast majority of the pictures (nearly 300 in total) were from his personal collection. The period of time covered was from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s, an interesting period covering not only the transition from nationalised British Rail to the privatised railway network, but also the running down of industry in these parts of Wales, in particular coal and steel. A fine miscellany of motive power was on offer, in particular Mr Green’s favourite engines, the English Electric Class 37s. One thing that struck me was how long ago many of the photographs had been taken, underlining the rapid changes that have taken place on this part of the domestic railway system.
