Earlier today I completed a new proofread for Pen & Sword Books, this one being a pictorial of London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) and London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) steam locomotives in the post-1948 era. Although the book was put together by author Malcolm Clegg, the photographs come from the collection of Peter Cookson. A rich and varied collection of illustrations with a wide range of subject matter. As well as the more familiar machines built and operated by the LMS and LNER, locomotives ranging from the Gresley U1 Garratt 69999 to ancient 0-6-0s from, amongst other companies, those made by the Caledonian, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and Midland, can be found. The pictures are all of a high quality and demonstrate the huge quantities of steam locomotives to be found on these parts of the domestic railway system at this time. I look forward to a companion volume on the Great Western and Southern systems.
