Like Lightning!

I have just finished a new proofread on behalf of Pen & Sword Books, this one being about the magnificent English Electric Lightning jet fighter and the viewpoint of the pilots who flew this wonderful aircraft in (mainly) RAF service, although coverage is also given to those examples that served in Saudi Arabia. In my opinion, because of ‘outside’ interference, the Lightning was never developed to its full potential, and if this had been the case, it would have been more successful in the export market. Leaving this aside, however, the manuscript was a worthy tribute to the Lightning, highlighting how various difficulties were overcome, leading to a very fine fighting machine. Although it doubled the performance of the aircraft it replaced, resulting in a steep learning curve for everyone involved with it, the Lightning became a well liked and truly great aircraft, worthy of a place in history alongside the Spitfire, Hurricane and Hunter, to name but three.
