Arthur Peppercorn

I have just finished a further railway proofreading project for Pen & Sword Books, this one being a biography of Arthur Peppercorn, the last Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). This was a further manuscript written by Tim Hillier-Graves, and follows on from his previous works about the LNER’s other CMEs, Sir Nigel Gresley and Edward Thompson. Another well-researched and well-written work, casting a spotlight on Mr Peppercorn’s forty-four-year railway career, of which being CME was the culmination. The new-build A1 steam locomotive ‘Tornado’ is a worthy tribute to Mr Peppercorn’s life and work, the original A1s having appeared during his time as CME, which was from 1946 to 1949.
