A different sort of voyage

In a complete contrast to all the railway proofreading projects that I have been working on recently, I also did one on a shipping-type subject, ‘Maritime London’. This was a history of the ships and boats that have used (and are using) the River Thames from stone age times to the present. The author was Anthony Burton and I have been fortunate enough to have proofread a series of his recent works for Pen & Sword Books on various subjects and topics connected with industrial history. As mentioned above, the story began in stone age times, and included both the sail and steam ages, contained an overview of the evolution of the former London docks, and a look at the emergency services based on the present-day Thames such as the RNLI. A most interesting read and a useful introduction to a vast subject.
